spirit zone recordings label nightnovember 1 1997 @ pakhus 11, copenhagen - denmarkdj:s emok (dk) . anti (swe) . antaro (d) live: ololiuqui (d) ________________________________________________ |
I am totally in love with the music Ololiuqui are making! More about that later on, though. I arrived to Copenhagen around 21.45, and my friends from Mellerud met me. We hung out for a while and came to Pakhus at 23. It was incredibly empty outside, except for all the guards standing there. We entered, got thoroughly searched (they had gotten a female to search the females, for a change, and that bugged me...haha) and was allowed to walk in. It was so empty in there! Emok was up playing, and only the very ambitious had already started to dance. I was not at all in the mood to start dancing already (although Emok played some full-on tunes) so I spent the next few hours walking around, talking, helping out lighting candles in the chill-out, basically taking it very easy. The police had shown up outside and apparently they had their hands full searching and taking people. When I had had a refreshing blackcurrant Hooch and enough talk, I entered the dance floor and let my legs to the dance. The Swedish pride Anti was up there, and for once he played really good! I know that some people say that he's done great sets before, but unfortunately I've missed them - except for his set at Interfuse - so this was a pleasant surprise! Axel had cancelled his gig the last minute, so Anti got 4 hours to play instead of 2. That was a welcome change. Anti played totally full-on music, he made us scream and shout and dance our asses off (...as if we weren't sweaty even before we got into the dance floor!). I bet no one wanted him to step down, but as he did we stood there, silently waiting for the live-set to begin. Ololiuqui. A group who's music I've adored since I first heard it, and I've also been wanting to see them in Copenhagen since. A powerful yet melodic intro led us into an outstanding set of tracks, every single one better than the last one. The extra drummer was a welcome addition. What else can I say? They were just as good as I'd expected, well better, and afterwards I went for a drink with one of the guys. Of course I told him how much I adored their music and every person I introduced him to said the same. Apparently there is a demand for this kind of music in Copenhagen. We've heard all the kinds we can possibly ask for when it comes to this music (psy-trance), but the crowd seems extra happy and engaged when something "new" and somewhat different is played. Unfortunately we won't get to see a lot of Ololiuqui around here for a while, but I won't go into details about why. Last man out was Antaro, the man who gave Germany psy-trance and the rest of the world VooV Experience parties. As a founder of Spirit Zone he should play good, and he did. It was a terrific set (what I saw and heard of it, anyway) and deserved a lot of credit. He just confirmed that he is still going strong, and for that, we are grateful. Good things about the night: nice decos! The decos at the last party were also brilliant, but then I thought it was something that would just happen once. I was proved wrong, and for that I'm happy! Lots of friends had come from Gothenburg! Did y'all see the Docklands-guy, by the way? I adored the smartbar, that banana-drink was....mmmmm! Not so good things were the police invading the place and annoying lots of people. I don't mind them being there but when I couldn't even bring money into the building without them asking me what the money were for, then something is wrong!!! I also met the guard that blackmailed me on New Years, and it bugs me like hell that he's still allowed to work as a guard! Wake up, organizers! All in all, a night with brilliant tunes all the way through. It's not very often everybody plays good all the time, so I guess this night should be cherished and remembered for that.
