When I heard a rumour about a huge party being planned in Malmö, I naturally got interested and very curious. Of course I got even more interested as I was offered to work at the party. And when the day of the party had come, I almost burst from excitement. Dino Psaras was coming to play - in MALMÖ, SWEDEN! Now that might not sound too spectacular to those of you living in UK or Holland or other party-metropolitans but in Malmö, that is BIG!

The party was held in a venue on Marsgatan, close to the harbour in Malmö. Prior to this event, there had been a lot of trouble involving techno- and house music, this particular venue & the police. We were all more or less worried about the police shutting the party down or not. The newspapers had had a lot of negative comments on technoparties and even though the permit was secured, you never know your luck when it comes to these parties.

Me and a few other girls from the "staff" came there around 22.30. The party was supposed to start at 23.00. The guys had their hands full setting everything up, the dj:s were up in the booth trying out the sound system and as there was nothing else to do, I went and introduced myself to them (shaking hands with Dino, smalltalking with him and Borelli) and after that I sat down and relaxed for a while together with some friends. I also had a chat with the guards, who were there thanks to myself!, they're all very nice guys and as it turned out, they did a great job in the door throughout the night. Thanks Jörgen - Richard - Roffe - Robban!

The decorations were so nice, and so different from last time I'd been to Vintergatan for a party. When you entered, you had the dance floor to the left, and you were separated from it only by black canvas. To the right, an extended bar-area with a net placed all over it and a charming light set that made it very very cosy. All around the bar-area you could find tables and chairs and on each table, home-cast candles. The walls were covered with backdrops by NOS and others, especially one of them were breathtaking and can't be described - it had to be seen!

Right in the middle of the dance floor, quite far up counting from the back, a totem pole was placed. It was some kind of a figurine, with horns and eyes that were lit up by lightbulbs situated inside the head. Effective! Not far from it, but based up in the dj-booth, an E.T.-look-alike stood, pointing his finger out over the crowd, looking cute. The strobes and the uv-lights synced perfectly, as did the ufo-lamp (kind of a spinning light, moving around) and personally I adored the lights.

Personally, I adored the music as well. I didn't get to hear too much from Dj Raid's set, as I had my hands full in the wardrobe at that time. Same goes for Borelli's set, I was running around in the bar then, selling drinks to all of the thirsty visitors. An estimated 700-800 people had come to celebrate "Valborgsmässoafton" in style. The police were not there at all, but I did talk to some of the social workers who'd shown up to see what we were up to. They were really nice and took a genuine interest when I tried to explain to them that these parties are not all about drugs.

Well, out of all the sets, there was one I was determined not to miss. Dino Psaras. I've seen him spin before, at a New Years Party in Copenhagen back in 1994 called The Final Frontier. He was awesome then, and he was awesome now. Dino is God Jr! He delivered a set that blew us off our heads, with some tunes known as "The Second Moon", "Tango Electro" and also a version of Man With No Name's Teleport that I await to come out on cd...fat chance!

The crowd consisted of both older party people and younger people, quite new to all this. There were visitors from Gothenburg, Malmö, surrounding places, Copenhagen... I have to say that the mood and vibe was just excellent! We all had a smashing time, dancing the hours away. I spent most of my time up the dj-booth (just overlooking the crowd felt good!) or downstairs, working in the bar and wardrobe.

Last man out was Dj Nemo, but by now I had to get back to the wardrobe as some people started to leave. The whole event was recorded on video and I have seen and heard that he did a very good set. The videofilm is really great, by the way. I think I've seen it a million times and I wouldn't mind watching it another million times. =:-)

I thank Embryo Society for a great party. I guess it will be a long time before another event like this is on in Malmö. Let's hope it's Embryo organizing!

sunshine & happiness
